Libellule, pronounced “Libby-lool”, is a New Orleans based clothing line that features vintage silhouettes with modern details. We pride ourselves on taking elements from different eras in time and different cultures from around the world and blending them together in our garments. Our designs have a high level of detail and many have appliques and embroidery. Libellule is the French word for dragonfly and is a symbol for joy in many cultures. We hope our ideas bring inspiration and joy to those who wear them.
Cricket and Leigh are both native New Orleanians, former Mardi Gras Queens, and former aerialists/acrobats. Leigh has a degree in Fashion from FIT and is currently head conservator at Gentle Arts Textile Restoration, where she restores textiles for museums, auction houses and private clients. Much of her inspiration is derived from the historical clothing she restores. Cricket is a former acrobat and coach who has been designing Cirque de Soliel style performance costumes for her students for two decades. She has a Masters in Arts Administration from UNO and was featured in the July 2011 edition of “Cue” magazine as New Orleans’ “It Girl” for her fabulous sense of style.
The Fall/ Resort 2012 collection we are showing has a Live Oak theme. We have loved putting together different aspects of live oaks: acorns, leaves, bark, roots, silhouette, Spanish moss etc. and incorporating them into stylish wearable garments. We are honored to be a part of putting New Orleans on the Fashion Map.
