Chapter Twenty Nine talks about fashion week education

Whet Wednesday: Workshop Mania

New Orleans Fashion Week, Fall/Winter 2012 is upon us!! I can’t wait until this Saturday, March 3, when the whir of fun begins. Especially dear to my heart are the educational workshops. As a pillar of the Nola Fashion Council, Education is a huge part of New Orleans Fashion Week. Our goal is not only to benefit the designers, but to enrich the fashion community in the South, creating a viable fashion industry right here in New Orleans. A huge part of that is education. New Orleans does not have any fashion schools, or even any furthering education art schools. We feel its a dire need in this immensely creative city and by providing educational workshops open to the public, we are giving it a start. Eventually we hope to have a year round educational program, taught by fashion insiders and industry pros from all over.

This season, we are proud to have Nashville Photographer Robby Klein teaching our commercial fashion photography class; New York to New Orleans implant designer Lisa Iacono, teaching the life cycle of a style, including production; couture wedding gown designer Suzanne Perron sharing her 7th avenue couture techniques; South Carolina designer and educator Julie Wheat of Cavortress teaching branding and social media for small business, and more! I couldn’t be more excited to offer these classes to YOU!

Please check out the Fashion Week schedule for more information on purchasing workshop tickets, and to attend all of our many events of the week! Fashion Week. SO looking forward to seeing you there!
